About the Role

As the Principal Engineer at Laudio, you will report to the VP of Engineering. We’re a growing team that’s rapidly building and iterating on software built on AWS with React, Node, and other technologies. We’re currently a globally distributed team (United States & Nepal), so you’ll need to be comfortable collaborating across multiple time zones. We do try to work asynchronously as much as possible, but some early morning meetings (7 AM ET) are likely.

Even though you’ll generally be working remotely, we are looking for someone who lives within commuting distance to Buffalo, NY or Boston, MA for this role for as-needed, in-person collaboration.

Additionally, we do get together in person for team/company retreats a few times per year. There may also be opportunities to travel to Nepal 1-2 times per year for deeper collaboration with some of our engineering team colleagues.

Responsibilities

As a Principal Engineer at Laudio, your responsibilities will include:

  • End to End technical ownership of key areas of the Laudio application, including new features and extensions to the product.
  • Software Architecture - you’ll design, develop, and deploy code with a focus on high availability, low latency, and scalability.
  • Hands-on Technical Contributions - a large part of this role will be writing code as an individual contributor across the stack in order to advance our product and engineering roadmaps.
  • Technical Mentorship - You’ll be expected to level up the Laudio technical teams with your engineering experience. You will build strong points of view on the vision, engineering and architecture of the Laudio application and lead complex initiatives to drive change
  • Being Glue - we’re still a relatively small team, so we’ll need you to be comfortable working across a variety of initiatives. This could include contributing to new projects, designing new features, optimizing and refactoring code, researching new technologies, responding to production issues, or modifying infrastructure.

Qualifications

What we’re looking for:

  • 7 years or more of experience as a SaaS application engineer, with experience building on a modern tech stack (CI/CD, feature flagging, automated testing)
  • Proven experience of end-to-end ownership of complex engineering initiatives in a SaaS context - from concept to launch of a product or major feature.
  • Demonstrable experience with Laudio’s current stack (React, Node, Typescript, SQL Server, AWS) with deep expertise in 2+ areas
  • Oriented to creating real business value - consciously balancing technical considerations with the need to ship fast, iterate, and create value.
  • (Optional but a big plus) Experience building CRM style / Workforce management products

Who you are:

  • You have an owner’s mindset - you lead from the front, are hands-on, accountable, learn fast, and execute with speed and iteration.
  • You have strong fundamentals - written and verbal communication, the ability problem-solve, prioritize and retain strategic and tactical perspectives.
  • You are comfortable with a wide range of technologies and stay current with the latest development best practices in your areas of expertise.
  • You know and care about sound engineering practices such as CI/CD, defensive programming, feature flags, and automated testing.
  • You have designed and built complex distributed and scalable systems.

We’d be really excited if you have previous experience:

  • Working at an early stage start-up
  • Working with offshore teams
  • Working remotely

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer in various environments with multiple distractions.
  • Must be able to travel.

An Insider's view of Laudio

How do you collaborate with other teams in the company?

One of my favorite things about Laudio is that we truly live our values everyday. “Collaboration is our Oxygen” and it could not be more true. We all pitch in and help each other across teams and geographies.

Ruwan

Regional Vice President of Sales

What makes someone successful on your team?

Empathy, communication, and simply caring about the work we do and why we do it. One mantra we have is “best efforts” — have you given your best efforts to complete something? Being honest with yourself and understanding that you will go as far as your effort will take you — that’s a liberating, but also employee-friendly, environment to cultivate.

Brett

Sr Product Manager, Quality, Safety & Patient Experience

How do your team's ideas influence the company's direction?

Here at Laudio, everyone has a voice and can make an impact. A good idea is a good idea, and it could come from anyone.

Ellen

CFO
