About the Role: 

Join Zoox and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of autonomous vehicles! We're seeking a talented individual to lead the design and release efforts for components on our innovative brake system. As a member of the chassis actuator engineering team at Zoox, you'll work to meet engineering milestones and collaborate with tier-one suppliers to develop and release foundation brake and hydraulic distribution components. This role encompasses both supplier-led designs and in-house developed build-to-print components. Responsibilities include managing component and system specifications, conducting failure mode and effects analysis, creating 2D and 3D computer-aided drawings and models, overseeing PLM release process documents, planning and executing validation tests, managing suppliers, and maintaining detailed project timelines. Close collaboration with cross-functional groups across Zoox is essential for success in this role. In this role, you will:

  • Utilize CATIA V6 to design foundation brakes and hydraulic distribution hardware, ensuring 2D drawings adhere to mass production standards, complete with relevant GD&T.
  • Develop and maintain thorough technical specifications for the brake system through collaboration with suppliers and internal Zoox teams.
  • Assess the static, dynamic, structural, and thermal-mechanical performance of mechanical assemblies to optimize functionality.
  • Lead component testing and characterization efforts, develop test methodologies, and conduct thorough data analysis to aid in root-causing issues.
  • Partner with suppliers to oversee design management, documentation, and the execution of engineering disciplines to ensure timely component deliveries.
  • Foster collaboration across various Zoox teams to streamline the manufacturing, service, and operational processes for our robots.
  • Engage with experts in AI, Mechatronics, Computer Vision, and Robotics across Zoox teams to leverage collective expertise and drive innovation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or at least 3 years of equivalent engineering experience
  • Experience designing stamped, cast, machined, and/or plastic injection molded components for mass production.
  • Familiarity with CATIA V6 for modeling and drawing creation and package verification.
  • Experience with foundation brake and hydraulic distribution hardware designs & validation methods
  • Experience interfacing/managing suppliers through the product development life cycle.
  • Knowledge of automotive program development, release processes, and long-term schedule planning

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience at automotive OEM or significant Tier 1
  • Polarion, Jira, and Confluence experience.
  • Simulink software proficiency and hydraulic system modeling
  • Some experience in vehicle engineering, chassis systems design, and component delivery

Compensation

There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary range for this position is $119,000 to $185,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
