Director, Program Management

The Role: We're looking for a senior leader to serve as the Director, Program Management, driving the evolution of the group's program management office (PMO) and leading the execution of key strategic programs. You'll lead a team of program/project managers and work with internal partners within P&C and other corporate functions. You'll ensure appropriate program management support to highly visible, complex programs across the group and be responsible for accelerating program delivery.
You have a strong background in program management as well as operational process improvement. Your experience delivering highly complex programs across multiple cross-functional teams, including oversight of multiple project plans and key metrics, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment is critical. You must be able to identify, navigate and ultimately reduce risk throughout the programs to deliver high value programs on time/budget. You'll drive PMO best practices and governance as well as operational excellence and continuous process improvement across the group. The ability to communicate clearly at all levels, form strong relationships with stakeholders and proactively identify and manage risks is essential in this role. The position is in Chicago and will report to the Head of Strategy, and Analytics within Morningstar's People & Culture function.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of program/project managers focused on end-to-end execution of multiple large-scale programs across teams and geographies.
- In conjunction with senior leaders in P&C, plan and schedule program goals, milestones, and deliverables across internal stakeholders to ensure that project tasks are completed on schedule with high quality.
- Communicate regular updates across all stakeholder groups, influencing and collaborating with senior leaders.
- Build relationships with key stakeholders (including P&C, Finance and/or IT) to ensure buy-in, maintain compliance, manage dependencies between multiple programs and development teams and identify improvements.
- Coach teams to identify and solve project issues effectively.
- Lead efforts to manage and support conflict resolution across priorities and development teams.
- Guides professional development of the PMO team.
- Build relationships with other senior program management resources in Morningstar to develop and leverage internal best practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree; advanced degree, certifications in project management (PMP, SixSigma/Lean) a plus.
- 7-10 years' experience in program and project management; experience in HR related programs and projects a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and sustain collaborative relationships across teams and regions.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and execute projects involving multiple stakeholder teams, most of which don't report to you.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully pivot between business and technology teams.
- A demonstrated ability to independently solve ambiguous problems.
- Effective in partnering with leadership to promote a collaborative and high performing environment.
- Proven leadership presence and success in facilitating global team collaboration.
