About the Role

As an Engineering Manager, you will be helping drive our fast-growing Uber Vehicles Engineering org! This Engineering Manager will lead our Vehicles Platform team. As an EM, You will lead a dedicated group of engineers in building a best-in-class platform that ingests, stores, and aggregates data on billions of ad events across Uber Rides and Uber Eats monthly. You will play a pivotal role in crafting the future of our Vehicles product and tech, which is essential to the growth of the business.

Uber is strongly vested in the success of the the fleet supply on Uber, given the quality it brings to the marketplace dynamics. The Vehicles Engineering Org in Seattle is building and evolving the best-in-class systems to match Earners with Uber Suppliers, as well as evolving the repertoire of fleet-in-a-box tools the suppliers need to manage their business.The Vehicles team has a mission to grow available supply for Uber's marketplace by enabling earners without access to vehicles to earn on Uber. The team's core mission is to explore and implement innovative solutions to transform the way vehicles are utilized and accessed within the Uber ecosystem.

What the Candidate Will Do ----

- Direct efforts within the organization to understand requirements and consolidate and translate strategically important business or technical problems into executable and extensible designs.

- Lead all aspects of design development that incorporate current short- and long-term needs, and can be extended for future needs.

- Address systemic issues, needs, and business requirements of various customers and teams, the ease of adoption, and documentation.

- Identify and advocate for strategic investments in extensible solutions within the organization, and build extensible solutions capable of reuse or integration to avoid redundant development.

- Serve as a resource for the team to connect them with broader engineering directions and initiatives.

- Scale up initiatives quickly, leveraging and assigning appropriate resources to various tasks and sub-tasks, and facilitating rapid movement towards end-goal.

- Set the standard of the engineering and/or people culture within their organization.

- Serve as a role model for mentoring and developing engineers into impactful citizens of Uber engineering.

- Define standards in testing, monitoring, and alerting systems and lead organizations to complete them.

\\-\\-\\-\\- Basic Qualifications ----

- Proven experience as a Software Engineering Manager II with a track record of successfully leading teams in developing critical software.

- Deep understanding of full-stack software development with experience leading both backend and front-end engineers.

- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to encourage and empower a diverse team.

- Ability to work with product management and shareholders to drive vision for ads analytics and reporting

- Validated ability deliver high-quality software products on time and within scope.

- Bachelor's or advanced degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.

\\-\\-\\-\\- Preferred Qualifications ----

- Advanced Degree: Master's or Ph.D. in computer science, engineering, data science, or a related field.

- Experience in Connected Vehicles Technology:

- Prior experience working in advertising technology with Big Data, and Distributed Systems.

- Proficiency in working with big data technologies such as Kafka, Spark, Flink, or similar distributed stream or batch data processing systems.

For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$218,000 per year - USD$242,000 per year.
