Northern Trust Global Head of Onboarding

Summary:

Northern Trust is looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual to lead our Client Onboarding team across the Enterprise. This position will report directly to the Northern Trust Asset Servicing COO.

The Global Head of Onboarding will be responsible for managing the entire onboarding lifecycle including program management, conversions, AML/KYC, account opening and transitions for new and existing client relationships across Northern Trust's business units globally.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive onboarding strategy aligned with the Northern Trust's goals to enable a best-in-class client onboarding experience.
  • Lead a team, consisting of operations, digital modernization, data and risk experts aligned to this practice.
  • Strong understanding of client needs from sales and service definition through service delivery and maintenance and manage cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Modernize the operating model, architecture, and governance to manage client data at source to ensure its delivery into enterprise systems.
  • Design and optimize client onboarding processes across geographies and businesses to enhance the overall client experience.
  • Identify and facilitate process improvements and efficiencies to optimize time to onboard in a controlled manner to Northern Trust and our clients' benefit.
  • Manage onboarding and data management for document management database inclusive of contracts, documents, and regulatory maintenance.
  • Define and maintain oversight into SLAs and KPIs for global onboarding and use metrics to drive efficiency in how the change function manages and handles initiatives.
  • Manage strategic initiatives for the Onboarding team and represent the team in cross-functional and cross line of business efforts.
  • Collaborate with sales, Front and Middle office, support, product, and technology teams to ensure a unified and client-centric approach.
  • Partner with risk organization to design and implement AML/KYC activities as part of an integrated end-to-end process.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices to continuously improve the client onboarding process.
  • Manage global onboarding teams including talent management, identifying training and development needs, establishing team performance standards, and coaching.

Skills / Experience:

  • A College or University degree and/or relevant proven work experience with management skills required. An Advanced Degree and or related Industry qualification is preferred.
  • 15+ years of extensive experience in financial services data operating models with a solid understanding of global markets, securities, account opening capabilities and global custody, capital markets, fund services and wealth management products.
  • Proven risk management capabilities including business resiliency, Compliance, RCSA, and AML/KYC requirements, rules, and regulations.
  • Deep understanding of resiliency, risk, and control across markets and regions.
  • Demonstrated experience in transformation, data & digitization strategy, and execution.
  • Proven experience in a leadership role overseeing client onboarding in Asset Servicing, Wealth Management and Banking.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop talent and high-performing global teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Client centric with strong commercial acumen, providing the ability to understand client issues, identify solutions, and drive financial performance.
  • Demonstrable ability to design and implement process and client experience improvements.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to identify areas for improvement and implement effective solutions.
  • Proficiency in CRM, workflow, and other relevant tools.
