Work Arrangement
This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Spring Hill Assembly on a full-time basis.
The Role
- The Indirect Material Leader (IML) leads a plant team that manages spare parts & supplies inventory supporting all plant manufacturing operations: Production, Maintenance, Engineering, and Facilities.
- Indirect Material is also referred to MRO material (Material, Repair, & Overhaul).
- The Spring Hill IML manages a 3-shift team of 55 contract and GM UAW employees, 2 factories, 3 general stores cribs, and an offsite warehouse operation. The IML primarily works dayshift and will be on call 24/7 for emergency needs.
- Key activities include purchase request approvals, confirmation of PO's, delivery tracking, optimizing inventory, database maintenance, handling of receiving discrepancies, mitigating indirect material shortages, expediting, and communication.
- The IML also manages a limited group of direct items including production chemicals.
- The ideal candidate will have leadership experience, be a team player, work proactively, be customer service focused, analytical, technical savvy with computers, and capable of managing projects.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
Manages Indirect Material Planning and Distribution regarding the following activities:
- Manage daily operations of the plant indirect materials team.
- Train, coach, and develop team. Practice good labor relations, complies, and enforces agreement. Promotes, educates, communicates, and follows up on safety initiatives.
- Perform a variety of audits for: Safety, GMS, orders, receipts, pricing, payments, cycle count investigations, and internal controls compliance.
- Optimize inventory levels via pricing, lead-time, usage, safety stock, and standard packs.
- Assists plant teams in the initial set-up of spare parts, optimization, through end-of-life.
- Work with Purchasing to improve internal process, and optimize supply base & delivery.
- Work with internal suppliers to optimize supply chain, such as Warranty & Repair Administration, Share-the-Spare, Distribution Centers, and sister-plant teams to avoid the purchase of new parts when excess parts may be available.
- Manage expedites and communicate material risks with customers & stakeholders.
- Ensure supplier receipts entry and discrepancy resolution are timely.
- Conduct monthly continuous improvement activities including ROP/Max adjustments, Excess reduction, Stock-outs, Obsolete and Not Planned updates, and trend analysis.
- Manage & execute projects such as inventory consolidation, storage rearrangements/moves, database conversion, and process improvements.
Manages direct productive chemicals regarding the following activities:
- Works with Buyers to maintain scheduling agreements for new & existing materials
- Optimizes Inventories, manages expiration dates, orders, delivery, and spend.
- Works with direct material engineering change coordinators, production planners, and Maintenance to support change management for new chemical part numbers.
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 5+ years of related professional experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to work in a complex environment with cross-functional teams.
- COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Inventory software such as SAP and/or Maximo; Order processing systems; Spreadsheet and Word Processing software.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or technical school, and 10+ years of professional experience.
