GERBER, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fiskars is looking for a Product Engineer 1. Gerber is an outdoor products company.

DUTIES

The primary responsibility of this role is the design and development of innovative consumer products including:

  • Concept development
  • Mechanical design (3D CAD models - SolidWorks or similar CAD systems)
  • Prototyping for design validation,
  • Delivery of technical specification/drawing packages, (GD&T, Performance Specs, Test Procedure)
  • Evaluation of off tool samples
  • First article release
  • Delivery of a production ready product.

Leads with the research, design, and implementation of projects.

  • Completes drawings and specifications.
  • Researches and analyzes design proposals, specifications, and applicable regulations.
  • Performs analyses utilizing standard procedures.
  • Ensures products and systems meet client/customer specifications.

Performs engineering project support functions.

  • Communicates project information among groups, departments, and units.
  • Reviews designs from suppliers.
  • Creates technical documentation.
  • Ensures that all project documentation is complete and current.
  • Understands patents and how to navigate the patent process
  • Assists in meeting safety requirements.
  • Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication, coordination, and working relationships with product team.

Keeps superiors informed of significant problems and of progress in reaching established objectives.

  • Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
  • Ensures that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
  • Completes special projects as assigned.
  • Attends meetings as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: College degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Consumer Product Design, Knowledge of Mechanical Design Concepts, Project Management
  • EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 3+ years of related experience.
  • SKILLS/ABILITIES:
    • Ability to read and understand complex mechanical concepts.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Well organized.
    • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
    • Able to operate computer applications: Solidworks, Microsoft Office, and other engineering software.
    • Interest in outdoor gear
