An Insider's view of Hot Topic Inc.

How would you describe the company’s work-life balance?

As a company, Hot Topic is a very big advocate of mental health and is understanding that we all have things happening in our personal lives. My team in particular has a great work relationship with open communication. Great work-life balance can not be achieved alone, but instead needs both the company and employees to share the same values.

What does your typical day look like?

First, I focus on what my team needs & who will help us be successful. This means daily facilitation of meetings to obtain work assignments, updates on targets & anything blocking them from completing a task. We also do a daily review of our Jira project board along with a review of the project plan...always focused on team success!

How do you make yourself accessible to the rest of the team?

Since joining the team, a consistent theme I have worked to highlight is trust - we trust that our teammates are here for the right reasons & that they will deliver on what they are responsible for. I think the first step to being accessible as a leader is to be a visible leader. This means being present with all levels of associates & listening.
