About Northern Trust:

Northern Trust, a Fortune 500 company, is a globally recognized, award-winning financial institution that has been in continuous operation since 1889.

Northern Trust is proud to provide innovative financial services and guidance to the world's most successful individuals, families, and institutions by remaining true to our enduring principles of service, expertise, and integrity. With more than 130 years of financial experience and over 22,000 partners, we serve the world's most sophisticated clients using leading technology and exceptional service.

Reputational and Strategic vulnerabilities are a critical focus for bank risk management groups.

Reputational risk captures the potential for decay in the bank's standing with key stakeholders, which include shareholders, staff, clients, regulators, and the communities in which the company operates. Strategic risk refers to internal or external developments that render strategy ineffective or unachievable.

We are seeking a professional to help define and implement a monitoring program for reputational and strategic risk. This role will report to the Head of Strategic and Reputational Risk and have visibility at the highest levels of the organization.

Among the responsibilities of the role are:

  • Crafting and maintaining policies on reputational and strategic risk, and responding to inquiries from examiners and auditors on practices in each area
  • Organizing discussions of reputational risk at the designated first-line governing committee
  • Review of strategy formulation and execution at the enterprise and BU level, and the creation of tracking measures to gauge risk
  • Participating in reviews of products and processes which might give rise to reputational or strategic risk
  • Monitoring industry developments and analyzing their potential impact on the company
  • Leading and participating in conversations with senior leaders on strategy
  • Defining and maintaining metrics (along with RAG ranges) related to reputational and strategic risk, and preparing quarterly reports in both areas
  • Developing a stakeholder scorecard to gauge the bank's standing with shareholders, clients, partners, regulators, and communities

The ideal candidate will have considerable experience in the financial services industry and a masters-level education. The role requires strong communication skills and the ability to interface comfortably across organizational levels.
