Vast is looking for a Avionics Software Test Engineer Engineer, reporting to the Staff Hardware Development Engineer to support the development of systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations.

This will be a full-time, exempt position located in our Long Beach location. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Work closely with Avionics and Software teams to design, build, and execute hardware testing of space components for the Haven space station
  • Develop comprehensive test plans and procedures for avionics software and hardware testing, considering functional requirements, design specifications, and industry standards.
  • Design and implement automated test scripts and frameworks to streamline testing processes and enhance efficiency.
  • Perform root cause analysis of issues identified during testing and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to resolve them in a timely manner.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements in avionics testing methodologies to drive continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering or other engineering discipline
  • 2+ years of experience coding in Python or C++

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Strong proficiency in software testing methodologies, test automation tools, and programming languages (e.g., Python, C/C++, LabVIEW).
  • Familiarity with basic electrical and wiring concepts such as circuits, grounding, and electrical safety.
  • A strong understanding of software architecture and design principles.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to document and explain complex technical issues clearly and concisely.
  • Extensive knowledge of avionics hardware, including embedded systems, sensors, actuators, and communication interfaces.
  • Experience with testing protocols and standards relevant to space systems (e.g., DO-178C, DO-254, MIL-STD-1553).
  • Experience with agile software development methodologies and DevOps practices.
  • Familiarity with the Atlassian Suite (JIRA, Bitbucket, Confluence)
  • Familiarity with Git, Cmake, and GNU tools
  • Able to work in a Linux environment

  • Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends to support critical mission milestones



Salary Range: California

$155,000$190,000 USD

Base salary will vary depending on job-related knowledge, education, skills, experience, business needs, and market demand. Salary is just one component of our comprehensive compensation package.
