Senior Director, Operational Risk Management

The Senior Director, Operational Risk develops and maintains an effective Operational Risk program focused on the firm's maintenance of the Operational Risk Capital Program, Loss and Scenario programs and enabling Operational Risk data frameworks through independent risk policy and driving front line execution.

  • Drives culture of operational risk awareness and develops / delivers operational risk training materials.
  • Coordinates, centralizes, harmonizes, and updates as necessary the governance requirements and processes across all operations that incur operational risk
  • Develops and communicates the US operational risk management framework Liaise and create lines of communication with Risk Governance, Risk Architecture and the Chief Risk Officer PMO office and US operating entities (OEs).
  • Monitors compliance with requirements of the operational risk framework and assess operational risk metrics across SHUSA and its affiliates Escalate policy exceptions, risk tolerance breaches and emerging operational risks.in a timely manner.
  • Aggregates levels of operational risk by OE and SHUSA and report to Chief Operational Risk Officer, Risk Architecture and other ERM team members in a timely manner Develop and implement a supervisory relationship management framework.
  • Formulates, disseminates and administers operational risk management policies and procedures across the Company.
  • Supports the development and implementation of tools, techniques and processes across the Company's risk department.
  • Executes the annual risk control self-assessment and scenario analysis processes Company-wide.
  • Develops Company-wide key risk and early warning indicators
  • Participates in the implementation of the departments reporting plan (all stakeholders).
  • Assists in the development and approval of operational risk tolerance levels.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience: Business, Finance, Management, or equivalent field. Master's Degree Business, Finance, Management, or equivalent field preferred .
  • Work Experience: 12+ Years in Operational Risk Management
  • Demonstrated record in managing and empowering technical/quantitative staff and mobilizing resources to implement company- wide initiatives.
  • Flexibility to travel occasionally as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex risk segmentation issues; superior analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills, including ability to multi-task and prioritize several projects at a time.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively engage in communication with executive management, board members, regulators and other team members across the organization.
  • Ability to handle conflict resolution with other groups to ensure appropriate accounting guidance is followed.
  • Ability to present highly complicated models and concepts to the Board and Executive committee in clear and concise terms.
  • Strong relationship building skills and the ability to develop and maintain business contacts at all levels of management throughout the organization.
  • Ability to adjust to new developments/changing circumstances.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and build relationships with multiple levels of the organizational structure, including senior level management.
  • Ability to maintain and report on confidential information in an appropriate manner.
  • Ability to convey a sense of urgency and drive issues/projects to closure.
  • Superior management and leadership skills.
