Job Summary:
As a Software Engineer II, you will use your coding and data skills to write and test code that delivers enhancements and new features for our Theatrical Distribution applications portfolio. You will be an important part of a motivated team where we'll be looking for you to collaborate with multiple teams to help drive application architecture, code quality, and make sure we are building the right things for our users. We want someone that is proficient at working with Java/Kotlin to build web applications. The ideal candidate would possess skills in both server and client-side technology (RESTful Web Services, Node.js, and React), coupled with experience with databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle. A plus would be experience with data streaming technologies such as RabbitMQ, Kafka, or SQS/SNS, orchestration and containerization platforms like Docker and Kubernetes, and No-SQL data stores like Elastic Search, Redis, and Memcache.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

  • Be part of product teams in building architectures which are robust, fault-tolerant, and cloud-native. Build solutions for problems of sizeable scope and complexity that have been successfully deployed to customers/users.
  • Deliver multiple projects utilizing an Agile methodology, following the principals set forth by the team, but wanting to bring a fresh perspective to our processes and new/enhanced technical tools.
  • Writes codes that establishes and enhances frameworks. Reviews code for the design, testability, and clear usability. Builds solutions that scale and perform. Identifies opportunities to improve the system/product/services with each iteration.


Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:
Basic Qualifications

  • Have 3+ years of experience in web application development or software engineering using Java/Kotlin and JavaScript, including familiarity with modern UI frameworks (e.g., React, Node.js, Atomic Design) and platforms such as Docker, Kubernetes, AWS EKS. Python is a plus.
  • Be able to demonstrate proficiency working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL. Pluses include knowledge of NoSQL data stores such as Elastic Search or MongoDB, and messaging and event streaming platforms like Kubernetes and RabbitMQ.
  • Care about your craft and have opinions about the "right" way to do things with technology.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Have experience with CI/CD tools and platforms such as GitLab, Jenkins, Team City, etc.
  • Be familiar with various Amazon Web Services such as S3 buckets, EKS, EC2, SQS/SNS, Lambdas, RDS, and more.
  • Be familiar with security technologies such as OAuth, OpenID, SAML, and Mutual SSL.
  • Possess knowledge of performance and application profiling.
  • Have a strong curiosity about how Disney delivers the Magic and a desire to be a part of it.


Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Engineering, or another technical field.


The hiring range for this position in Burbank, CA, is $112,600 - $151,000 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
