As a Staff Android Application Engineer, you will be a key member of our mobile development team. You will be responsible for building high-quality features and will prototype new features while maintaining and improving existing features. 
Your contributions always include test coverage, and you are constantly looking to improve our application structure, performance, and reliability. 
You regularly contribute constructive feedback in peer code reviews. You understand how to work with and when to compromise with stakeholders to deliver a product that meets and exceeds customer expectations.


ROLE/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for setting technical direction and shaping our engineering culture
  • Responsible for establishing best practices and defining effective partnerships
  • Work with cross-functional partners in Engineering, Product Management, Design to plan, implement, and validate solutions to user problems
  • Experience with all layers of the Android stack
  • Proactively identify improvements to our product's UX/UI and our codebase to enable us to stay ahead of the curve of the constantly evolving Android development ecosystem
  • Enable effective collaboration, high velocity execution and technical excellence within the team
  • Lead by example in terms of best engineering practices including writing engineering architecture/design documents, checking in, reviewing maintainable and extensible code with high-quality tests and documentation
  • Provide technical mentorship and coaching to team members
  • Collaborating with iOS and backend engineers to create a unified product
  • Experienced with Android Scrum Methodologies
  • Skilled at investigating issues, documenting, and proposing solutions to fix problems

*Please note, our roles are onsite (no hybrid or remote options available) requiring relocation to Bay Area, CA*


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 8+ years of prior experience developing mobile applications on Android with Java and/or Kotlin
  • Knowledge of core CS concepts such as data structures and algorithms, profiling, and optimization
  • Prior leadership experience as technical lead/architect
  • Considered a Subject Matter Expert when it comes to Android development familiar with standard software engineering methodology such as unit testing, code reviews, design documentation
  • Familiar with Android SDK frameworks, in areas such as networking, data persistence, logging and performance tooling
  • Strong understanding of Android design guidelines

 PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Previous experience building products from scratch, and proven ability of turning product requirements into concrete engineering plans
  • Possess general networking knowledge with detailed experience in Android networking stacks
  • Possess technical depth that allows you to negotiate expectations around technical limitations, bring designs to life, and rapidly fix bugs and solve problems
  • Experience with building high quality, scalable and reusable code consumed by other engineers
  • Advocate of user-centric product development and understands the balance required when shipping impact software at scale, while considering trade-offs and collaboration
  • Track record of coordinating implementation of high impact projects across many teams, delivering projects with reliable deadlines and milestones over multiple quarters
  • Strong understanding of Android design guidelines
  • Demonstrated ability to assist other teams with diagnosing or root-causing their incidents
  • Extensive experience with unit testing, client-server interactions, and scaling cloud-based systems.
  • Expertise in Android application architecture and tools such as CI/CD pipelines, Gradle/Kotlin DSL.
  • Automotive systems development.
  • Experience developing iOS mobile apps (Swift or Objective-C).
  • Experience developing Android mobile apps (Java or Kotlin).
  • Experience with NFC, Bluetooth Low Energy, or UWB.
  • Experience with gRPC, Thrift, or other RPC protocols.
  • Experience with BLOC, Redux, or other advanced state management techniques
  • Masters Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field



Salary Range: The compensation range for this position is specific to the locations listed below and is the range Lucid reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including job-related knowledge; skillset; experience, education and training; certifications; and other relevant business and organizational factors.

 

Additional Compensation and Benefits: Lucid offers a wide range of competitive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, vacation, and 401k. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in Lucid’s equity program and/or a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing such programs.  (Cash or equity incentive awards, if any, will depend on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and company performance.)

$163,700$240,020 USD
