THE ROLE

To work effectively as part of the NY Payments Team, providing ownership of all client payment related issues while maintaining a high level of customer service at all times.   

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the sale settlement process for all auction & private sales
  • Generate outgoing client payment runs daily
  • Ensure client payment instructions are entered appropriately and verbally verified when required
  • Ensure clients are paid promptly and in accordance with any agreed terms
  • Ensure Corporate Governance policies are always adhered to
  • Reconcile incoming and outgoing payments daily
  • Manage payment requests and currency purchases via our Global Trading Company
  • Promptly answer and resolve inquiries from clients and internal departments
  • Manage the remittance of checks & payment advices
  • Liaise with our Treasury department to resolve client payment issues and assist with cash management
  • Work with Sotheby’s Financial Services on complex client payment scenarios
  • Complete Ad hoc requests and projects as needed by Credit Manager / PSS Management


IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, ideally in relevant area of study/interest
  • 2 years of relevant accounting, finance or payment experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good numeracy skills
  • Strong organizational skills and follow through including ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • High level of attention to detail and good reconciliation skills
  • Logical and practical thinking, with excellent resourcefulness and problem-solving skills
  • Calm demeanor, especially under pressure, with ability to handle difficult client situations
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Highest standard of confidentiality, discretion and work ethic
  • Ability to work both independently and to partner with colleagues
  • Understanding of global banking systems and foreign currency payments
  • Prior experience with SAP is desirable
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office particularly Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Multi-lingual skills are a plus

The proposed base salary for this position ranges from $50,000-$60,000. In addition to base salary successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus, as well as a competitive benefits package. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered.
