Red Hat is seeking a experienced, visionary, and strategic leader to join our team as the Senior Director of User Experience. In this role, you will be responsible for driving the strategic vision, resource management, organizational planning and tactical implementation of user-centric experiences across our product portfolio. You will lead a team of UX designers, researchers, and engineers to understand and develop experiences that not only serve our customers and partners needs today, but identify and plan for emerging opportunities to set us up for future success. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders to align UX initiatives with business objectives and ensure a cohesive user experience strategy.

For this position, you must be able to work HYBRID in either Raleigh NC or Boston MA.

What you will do

  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Define and champion the overarching user experience vision and strategy in alignment with company goals and market trends
    • Collaborate with product management, engineering, marketing, and other stakeholders to integrate user experience priorities into product roadmaps and ensure a cohesive end-to-end user experience
    • Provide thought leadership on emerging UX trends, methodologies, and technologies, advocating for continuous innovation and improvement
  • Organizational Leadership:
    • Recruit, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team of UX designers, researchers, and prototypers
    • Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, and excellence, empowering team members to achieve their full potential
    • Establish clear goals, KPIs, and performance metrics to evaluate organizational performance and drive continuous growth and development
  • User-Centric Design:
    • Lead and oversee the end-to-end design process, from user research and concept ideation to prototyping, testing, and iteration
    • Ensure that design decisions are informed by user insights, usability best practices, and accessibility standards
    • Advocate for the needs of our diverse user base, striving to create inclusive and accessible experiences for all users
  • Cross-Functional Collaborations:
    • Collaborate closely with executives, product management, engineering, marketing, and other teams to align UX initiatives with broader business objectives
    • Facilitate communication and alignment between design and development teams, fostering a seamless and efficient product development process
    • Act as a user experience evangelist, promoting a user-centric mindset and fostering a deep understanding of user needs across the organization
  • Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement:
    • Establish rigorous quality assurance processes to ensure that delivered products meet high standards of usability, accessibility, and design excellence
    • Drive a culture of continuous improvement, leveraging user feedback, telemetry, analytics, and usability testing to iterate and enhance the user experience over time
    • Monitor key UX metrics and performance indicators, using data-driven insights to inform decision-making and prioritize areas for improvement

What you will bring

  • A minimum of 12 years of UX/UI experience, with at least 8 of those years leading high performing UX/UI teams to deliver exceptional user outcomes
  • Ability to work HYBRID from either Raleigh NC or Boston MA.
  • Demonstrated ability to create, build, develop, sustain and improve high-performing teams with the ability to develop and empower teams, present an overarching vision and maintain high standards of delivery
  • Deep expertise in user-centered design principles, usability and inclusivity best practices, design thinking methodologies, industry trends, and emerging technologies
  • Strong strategic thinking and business acumen, with the ability to align UX initiatives with broader business objectives
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to effectively manage stakeholder relationships and expectations
  • Ability to deliver multiple priority projects with high customer satisfaction in a rapidly changing environment and ability to influence within a matrix to build the teams
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with excellent presentation skills
  • Experience working in an agile development environment, with a strong understanding of the software development lifecycle
  • Proficiency with design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Figma, or equivalent
  • Experience with open-source software development and familiarity with open-source communities is a plus

The salary range for this position is $186,650- $298,000. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.
