About the Role:
The Energy Procurement Director is responsible for securing reliable, cost-effective, clean, and sustainable power for CoreWeave’s industrial-scale data centers.
This role leads the development and execution of integrated energy procurement strategies, manages direct utility engagement and contract negotiations, and actively oversees both long-term and short-term energy management—including risk mitigation through physical and financial hedging.
Key Responsibilities
Integrated Energy Procurement Framework
- Develop and implement a comprehensive energy procurement framework that aligns with CoreWeave’s strategic growth and operational needs.
- Establish cross-functional processes for holistic power management across Data Center Operations, Finance, Sustainability, Engineering, and Corporate Development.
- Develop bottom-up demand models that reflect workload mix, efficiency curves, PUE, and long-term growth scenarios and integrate energy forecasts into broader financial planning and capacity models.
- Monitor energy markets, regulatory changes (FERC, ISO/RTO), and state incentives to inform site selection and contracting.
Direct Utility Engagement & Contract Negotiation
- Identify and negotiate direct utility deals and alternative procurement mechanisms (e.g., retail supply, Power Purchase Agreements PPAs, Virtual Power Purchase Agreements VPPAs) in both regulated and deregulated markets.
- Lead negotiations with utilities and data center operators to optimize contract terms, manage price risk exposure, and ensure direct control over utility bills.
Long-Term and Short-Term Energy Management
- Balance the energy portfolio by managing contracts for length, price, and geography to match data center load profiles.
- Oversee physical hedging strategies, PPAs/VPPAs, and the purchasing of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) as needed.
- Manage short-term procurement through demand response programs, spot trading, and real-time energy management.
Financial Hedging and Risk Management
- Develop and execute financial hedging strategies to manage price volatility and portfolio risk.
- Analyze market trends, regulatory changes, and consumption patterns to inform procurement decisions and optimize risk management.
- Manage and improve oversight of all-in power costs globally across various contract structures including colocation, triple net, and owned data centers
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Serve as a key liaison between energy procurement and other business functions, ensuring alignment with corporate sustainability and financial goals.
- Collaborate with sustainability leaders to drive clean energy procurement, set renewable targets, and support environmental credit purchases.
- Lead a small team of power market analysts, fostering a high-performance, insight-driven culture.

Minimum Qualifications
- Experience: 12+ years in power markets with direct P&L responsibility large-scale corporate buyers in real estate, industrial, tech/hyperscale cloud operators.
- Deep expertise in U.S. and European energy markets, including deregulated markets
- Demonstrated success in negotiating >250 MW complex energy contracts and managing supplier relationships.
- Strong analytical skills in energy forecasting, risk analysis, and financial modeling.
- Experience with demand response, physical and financial hedging, and onsite energy solutions.
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration, leadership, and communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, or related field; MBA or MS in Energy Systems is a plus.
The base salary range for this role is $212,000 to $283,000. The starting salary will be determined based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location. We strive for both market alignment and internal equity when determining compensation. In addition to base salary, our total rewards package includes a discretionary bonus, equity awards, and a comprehensive benefits program (all based on eligibility).

Our Workplace
While we prioritize a hybrid work environment, remote work may be considered for candidates located more than 30 miles from an office, based on role requirements for specialized skill sets. New hires will be invited to attend onboarding at one of our hubs within their first month. Teams also gather quarterly to support collaboration
