Vorto’s tools are used by thousands of truck drivers and logistics professionals — but for drivers, the platform isn’t just helpful, it provides a primary source of income. As such, Vorto’s tech has to be people-centered, and its company culture follows suit. Team members are encouraged to build on the culture as the team grows. They’re also empowered to grow professionally, and the team is there to back them up. “Employees are encouraged to shadow someone in a role they are interested in or work with a more experienced team member doing the same role,” said Operations Manager Kelsey Abernathy. It’s an ideal workplace for those who are ready to jump in, make mistakes, and learn and grow from them.

It’s OK To Fail
Where camaraderie equals progress.
Vorto’s culture in one word? “Supportive,” said Henry Reohr. “I’ve never worked with such high-performing team members who are still able to go out of their way to help one another.” He knows his teammates have his back, and vice versa. Together, they have built an environment where failure is OK. “We just work together to move forward,” Reohr said. That sense of camaraderie goes beyond 9-5: The team frequently eats dinner together, and they now have a monthly game night thanks to a new employee’s enthusiasm — proof that togetherness starts from the beginning.

We have opportunities to shape culture. If you are willing to take initiative, organize something and rally the team around it, then the company will support you.
The Golden Rule
Lead others how you want to be led.
Kelsey Abernathy
Operations Manager
Kelsey Abernathy strives to be the type of leader she’d want to work for. She makes a tireless effort to identify her team members’ individual strengths and opportunities to help them grow, and she leads by example with honesty. “I’m not afraid to admit I do not know the answers and take that as a learning opportunity for both myself and my employees,” Abernathy said. In weekly one-on-ones with her team members, Abernathy discusses their strengths and goals and ways they can improve to achieve them. She provides encouragement and access to training, and, above all, a supportive space.

Own It
People-focused tech brings a sense of accountability.
When Baldini joined the engineering team, it was a small ragtag group with little experience, but they worked together to build a successful company. The team is now more robust with complementary skills and levels of expertise, plus strong code-review and mentoring processes — yet they maintain a fairly loose organizational and development process. “Our engineers have the freedom to build the solution that is most appropriate to the problem at hand,” Baldini said. They take ownership of those solutions and push themselves to make a difference for people who rely on the tech to do their jobs.
